HAPPY MLK DAY! As I sat in bed last night, I begin to wonder to myself if people really knew the meaning of today. If African Americans really understand the struggle and adversity that our people...people of our nationality had to endure "back in the day?". I recently had the opportunity to go and visit the birth home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I learned more about his life and all that he faced as a young African American boy. I found it fascinating that he was required to come home from school every day, go into his room, complete his homework and wait for his parents to come and go over it with him. Not only did he have to complete all homework, he was also required to read the Bible~pick a verse from it, read the newspaper and explain how the verse and what he read in the newspaper applied to his life. I found this fascinating because in today's world, children come home from school and are glued to the television set until dinner or bedtime. I believe if more children had a more structured life that consisted of them reading the Bible more and reading the newspaper, we will have less violence on our streets and in our schools.
Visiting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's birth home and his exhibits opened my eyes to something I was blinded to...and that is...Freedom. I am guilty of taking life and the opportunities I have for granted. Being able to walk into a restaurant or shopping mall and not having to leave if someone of "non-color" was present is something that was fought for on my behalf. Many people died so that I could eat and drink and attend schools with other nationalities...and for that, I am forever grateful!

Introduction
Hey Bloggers!
My name is Dominique. I am new to this, so I decided to start things off with a little "Introduction". Born in a singe parent home, I am the oldest of two. I am currently 25 years old and in the "prime" of my life. I have a great family, awesome friends, a job, I'm educated and I have a growing relationship with God that I am VERY Blessed to have. I LOVE to laugh! Laughter is truly good for your soul! I mentioned that I am educated- this is true; however, I am not finished just yet. I am beginning Graduate school on the 24th of this month! I will pursue my Masters in Community Counseling with a certificate in Pastoral Counseling. I am not your typical gal. I love sports; however, I love getting a mani/pedi done as well! :)
I believe in making life as enjoyable as you can. When things are going wrong, I always remind myself that someone somewhere else has it way worst than I do. I have learned to appreciate ALL of the "little" things in life; such as a bed to sleep in, a roof over my head, a vehicle that drives, a job!, the activities of my limbs, the ability to do for myself (cook, clean, think, etc). I have also learned that life is what you make it- so I choose to make mine GREAT!
I look forward to meeting new people and my goal, on blogspot, is to inspire and be inspired! :)
